The Alberta volume anomaly
Alberta is the outlier the value column hides. Alberta-based vendors hold 5,515 distinct companies — the fourth-largest vendor population of any province — and 28,584 federal contracts, more than Nova Scotia despite Nova Scotia's three times the value ($32.9B against $10.9B). The average Alberta-headquartered award is $381K, the lowest of any province.
Read together with the value table, the pattern is consistent: outside the National Capital Region orbit, federal procurement in Alberta is a high-volume, small-ticket market. The median Alberta play is repetition — many small awards to many local firms — while the mega-deals concentrate in Ontario and Quebec headquarters. For a supplier, the two provinces are different games played with the same rulebook.
Postal-code attribution is available only where published; unattributable records are excluded. Provincial shares are of attributed value, not of total value.
